There is a new trailer up for the new Tim Burton treatment of the Ronald Dahl story, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This movie sets out to update and modernize the original treatment of that book, the amazing (and classic) 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - Burton has claimed that his treatment is much more "true to the original story" than the 1971 movie. This preview begins looking much more silly than the 1971 movie, but about the time Augustus Gloop drops into the chocolate river it takes on the classic Burton darkness - however, is the movie going to be more "Burton" weird, or "Ronald Dahl" weird (like the book)?

I guess we'll have to wait and see. All I know is that they have a very tall order to fill in surpassing, or even equaling, Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. However, I must say that I am a huge fan of Johnny Depp, and I think if anyone can do it, he has the skills to do so.

1 - I think the movie will be Dahl-weird with the look of Burton. I really like Johnny/Willy walking into the camera at the end of the clip. I got a huge kick out showing this to my 13 year old daughter, who's got a huge crush on Johnny Depp. All she kept saying was "Noooo! That can't be him!"

2 - I'm not so convinced. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is one of my favourite movies, even of a much-loved book, and this didn't seem quite right to me. I would have liked a look at the Oompa Loompa's - or have they been fased out?

3 - I hope so, Bill. I think it has the potential to be really great - but with all great rewards, it also has the great risk of completely sucking.

And yeah, Willy running into the camera is funny
