I wanted to take a quick moment to point you to some required reading. Damien Katz, ex-Irii and God-Emperor-of-Formula-Engine, has written a fantastic "tell-all" about the process of rewriting the Formula engine for ND6. I think it is required reading by all who work with Notes/Domino.

Also,
Ed followed up with his perspective on Damien's essay - it is a great followup read.

As for my perspective, I have heard bits and pieces of this story from time to time over beers and such with Damien; but to read all of it, laid out, is fascinating. I brag on Damien in all of the Formula sessions I give, and I especially point out his daring question in the BP Forum and the thread it created. It was the longest thread in BP Forum history, and also demonstrated some fantastic collaboration. As Damien said many of the ideas were stupid; but often the community was self-correcting, blasting the idea before Damien even had a chance to respond. We also "talked" through many iterations on quite a few functions until it became something Damien could reflect in code.

Incidentally, I will carry on my tradition as one of the "Formula Evangelists" at Lotusphere 2005 this year with my session entitled Visit the Formula Big Top! There is also a companion article coming out in Lotus Advisor magazine, which will be available for free at Lotusphere as well.

In any case, you should read Damien's essay - it is well worth you time.

Thanks for sharing, Damien.

1 - This is not a comment but a question. I have software for Lotus 123......I love the program. Where can I email and ask a question about it??

2 - @Doraine - I would say your best bet is to get in contact with John Head at PSC (jhead@psclistens.com). He still is fairly active with SmartSuite, and is one of the best at working with it.

Good luck.

3 - It really is a most excellent piece!
