Atlanta Falcons - One game away from the SUPER BOWL!

I had the distinct pleasure of attending the NFC Divisional Playoff game between my Atlanta Falcons and the "Air Martz" attack of the St. Louis Rams. After a tit-for-tat start where both teams scored twice on successive drives, the Falcons' defense began to figure out how to stop St. Louis and the Falcons then dominated the Rams for the entire second half, with a final score of 47-17.

All three phases of the Falcons gameplan worked - offense (pound them with the run until they can't stop it - and they never did), defense (in the second half they tweaked their attack and began to put the Rams QB Bulger on his back, repeatedly - and once for a safety), and special teams (kick coverage dominated, and kick/punt return specialist Allen Rossum set an NFL Playoff record with 152 return yards). The Falcons looked like a dominating team, and proved that their 11-5 record was no fluke (in fact, the last two games were treated as exhibition games, since the Falcons clinched the NFC South title and the #2 seed early).

The Georgia Dome was raucous - it was the loudest I have ever heard. The fans were in full support of their team, and you could tell that everyone was feeding off of it. I screamed for the entire game, and my voice is still completely trashed.

I'll be in Orlando for Lotusphere next week - I arrive in Orlando on Saturday. The Falcons will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game on Sunday at 3PM, and I plan on being at the ESPN Club on the Boardwalk to watch that game. There is a certain sense of deja-vu for me watching the game there - the last time I watched the Falcons in a playoff game at the ESPNSportzone on the Boardwalk was in January 1999, when the Falcons played - and beat - the Minnesota Vikings for the NFC Championship. I am hoping the deja-vu reaches fulfillment again :)

BTW, anyone else want to meet up with me early to go over there on Sunday to secure some tables and watch the game? If so, let me know. In 1999 there was a table of about 6 Falcon fans amongst about 200 Vikings fans - I'd like to have better numbers with me this time ;)

1 - hi

2 - Had the Pack managed to beat the Vikings, then I'd be rooting against you. As it is, I'll be there to help cheer your Falcons on. (I have to admit, it would be really cool to see Atlanta take the Superbowl).
-Devin.

3 - Count me in! I would love to see the Vikings get smashed, if for no other reason they they pounded by beloved Pack and left them for dead a week ago...

Hopefully the Falcons will serve up some more of the whoop @$$ they opened on the Rams.

4 - Yo, Rock! Rick Caffery here! I misplaced your tel # so I googled you. hehe. You can run but you can't hide. I was going to invite you to join my buds and I at Jeffrey's Sports Bar in Suwanee. We went there last Sat. and had a blast.

Have fun in Orlando and go Falcons! email me your tel #'s at your earliest convenience.

ps I foogin' hate John Kinkaid. What, 680 The Fan can't hire someone who isn't a Philly homer?

5 - I'm a very long-time Rams fan, going back to the Roman Gabriel days in LA. Now, I'd have been happy to see the Rams beat Atlanta, but in reality I'd rather see the best team advance. And in this case, that was the outcome.

Congrats to the Falcons, and good luck next weekend against the Eagles.

6 - Falcon fans!! Jerry Rice is waiting for a phone call. It might as well be from Mike Vick. Can anyone comprehend the value of Rice to Michael Vick and the Falcon offense? Who better than Rice can run 5, 10, 15 and 20 yard routes to maximize a ball control offense. Can Coach Mora see it, can Arthur Blank see it, can Dunn and Duckett see Rice's value. Jerry Rice is a tremendous downfield blocker. He runs his routes with so much precision that Vick can with confidence get the ball to him on 3rd down conversions. What the Falcons need is a 3rd down specialist. A Jerry Rice on the Falcons roster is like Preston Pearson of the old-school Dallas Cowboys. This is a sure way to take pressure off of Vick in 3rd down situations. Want to strike FEAR into NFL defenses? Coach Mora, mull over the scenarios in your mind over and over and over again as I have. Rice is not through. Atlanta's offense is a good fit. Want to maximize a powerful ball control offense. Line up Rice on critical yardage situtions. Yes, at 42, he still has to be accounted for. Let defensive coordinators under estimiate him and they will get burned. Rice being from Mississippi will feel right at home in the Georgia Dome. Somebody in the Falcons' front office...pick-up the phone and call Jerry Rice. You will soon see the big picture. DO IT -- time is of the essence.

The acquisition of Jerry Rice to the ATL FALCONS would bring added chemistry to the organization--not to mention the impact he will make on the overall team and marketing standpoint

7 - Falcons vs. Pats in the Super Bowl! This Sunday should be some great games. I'll try to make it over to ESPN for the early game, then watch the Pats at the party on the beach.

later,

Chris

8 - Count me in, Rocky. I definintely want to see the game.

9 - Well I think The Pats will take it agai, being from Boston, But I may be therer just to hag and see who the opposition will be.
