Well Libby, Rich, and Ben have done it - and I want to be a kewl kid too.
From Libby's post, here are the instructions:
The instructions are: Go to musicoutfitters.com, and do a search on the most popular 100 songs from the year you graduated high school. (You can do this by searching on the year you graduated). Bold the ones you actually like. (Understand that the word "like" in this case means, at the very least, "wouldn't immediately change the radio station from.") Pick a favorite. Underline that favorite. AndStrikethruthe ones you loathe. Italicize the ones you consider to be guilty pleasures.
Since I graduated in 1982, the top 100 songs from that year tend to be a combination of sappy crap, new wave, and hair bands. Here's the list...

Some comments about the list...
- I actually do like some Elton John, but most of it is his 70s stuff when he was with Bernie Taupin. The 80s stuff was pop crap.
- I was not a big fan of new wave, with the exception of The Police and The Cars
- I despise Air Supply with every fiber of my being, and it was painful even to read the titles of their songs
- I love the song Tainted Love by SoftCell. So sue me.
- I like Foreigner. So sue me again.
- I also love the song Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nick, and even listened to it today before I saw this list. It probably helps that I had a crush on Stevie back in my high school days - she was hot back then. Remember, I was in high school when Rumours broke - and that was a defining album back then.
Since this has been so popular, I imagine others will want to list theirs too. If you have your own blog, do it there; if not, feel free to do it here or on one of the others before me.
I have to admit it was fun to stroll down memory lane; I also have to admit that I had to listen to some of these songs on iTunes to be able to remember them. Oh well, Memory Lane isn't as clear as it used to be...

I was into synthesizer bands then: Ultravox, Gary Numan, OMD, etc. Few people in the US had heard of them back then, and nobody remembers them anymore, but I still listen to them once in a while.
RJL, also class of 1982

There are a few I'd probably make guilty pleasures too, but overall that year wasn't that great- I guess my favorite from that year was Rosanna- I love that whole album. (oops- I said album didn't I? Well it was THEN)

Looks like I've got similiar tastes as you Rock and I graduated in 1982 also. I agree with your Elton John, New Wave, Foreigner and Stevie Nicks comments. I'd hate to admit it but liked some of that sappy stuff like Air Supply. Did you ever see the movie "Tommy Boy" with Chris Farley and David Spade? There's a seen when they're channel surfing on the radion as they drive down the road. They tune into a Carpenter's song and act like it sucks and then in the next scene their crying and singing along.
I think that's hilarious because I too loved Karen Carpenter's voice.
Personally, I've always been more into album rock and some deeper cuts than they ever play on radio. I was a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and "Nebraska" was released in 1982.
I'm loving my Sirius radion with channels like Jam On, Radio Margaritaville and The Vault.
I'll post my list this weekend.
