I need help - Firefox issue on my home computer

We use Firefox on our home computer. For quite some time it has had the following problem. When graphics are displayed in the page, they appear as solid colors - not as the graphics themselves. I can right-click on the graphic and view the image, but when viewed inline the images look like this:

This is the speaker page for the ILUG confernce

This began on Firefox 1.x. I tried uninstalling all plugins. I tried uninstalling Firefox itself. I tried upgrading to Firefox 2.0x. Nothing helped.

So, I am coming to you, my brilliant readers. What is going on, and how do I fix it?

BTW, I don't have this problem on my work laptop or any other machine I have.

Any ideas?

1 - I LIED. The problem still exists. Dammit.

HELP!!

I'll post a new entry pointing to this one to re-open the discussion, and try some of the other suggestions above.

2 - I tried uninstalling Firefox, nuking the Program Files directory for Firefox, nuking the various directories in Documents and Settings for Mozilla Firefox. Then I reinstalled FireFox 2.0.0.1.

And the problem still occurs.

Now I am wondering if it is something else, like a graphics driver issue.

Keep the ideas coming!

3 - Try "View Source - Generated HTML" within the extremely useful "Web Developer" extension. Usually that particular option is handy for checking DHTML and such, but it might help in this instance too. There's also an image menu within Web Developer that might yield some info.

4 - How about the good old standby SHIFT-F5 (clear page cache). If not, start FF in safe mode, and see what happens....

5 - Update: I went on an uninstalling spree. I uninstalled a bunch of stuff - and I think the problem may have been caused by either SpywareBuster or SpywareGuard. I uninstalled these programs amongst other ones that I don't think were related, and now the problem seems to have cleared itself up.

Thanks again for the suggestions, folks. If the problem crops back up you know I'll let you know.

6 - @Rock: open empty firefox window, goto about:config, filter on image, post results.

7 - Dies this problem occur in portable firefox, too ? if not, creating a new profile should solve problem (as Frank mentioned above).

8 - At the risk of teaching Grandma to suck eggs, have you added/removed anything (apart from FF) from your system recently?

Have you cleaned out your Registry of FF entries? Perhaps something in there is the source of your pain ..? Are any other apps misbehaving graphically? If so, then that would be a sure-fire video driver issue?

9 - Hi Rocky.

It might be worthwhile creating a new profile within Firefox. By default, "Stuff" relating to your browser profile is stored within your "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile" folder (I think?).

I would make a backup of this folder, uninstall FF 2.0, delete this folder and then try re-installing FF 2.0. It may or may not help ... I hope it does.

10 - Maybe not a Firefox related problem. Perhaps some kind of VirScan or AdBlocker causes this ...

11 - in tools-options content there is a checkbox to turn off automatic loading of images. This does not appear to give the solid colour boxes for me, so it probably isn't the problem, but worth checking anyway I guess. It would appear to be using the top left pixel colour as the block colour. This means it is making the request to the server for the image, this means you appear in the server's log files, therefore it isn't some kind of privacy guard thing, or a performance tweak.
