I am saddened to hear that Charlton Heston, one of the greatest actors of a bygone era, passed away Saturday evening. He was 84 years old. According to this article from NPR:

Charlton Heston, a Hollywood leading man for six decades, died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills. At 84, he had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease. In films ranging from biblical epics to science-fiction dystopias, he stood tall as a heroic figure.

And that is how I choose to remember him - as a heroic figure, larger than life, in movie epics. In his later years he became closely associated with the National Rifle Association, even leading that organization as President for a number of years. While I didn't agree with all of his politics, I still respect his tremendous body of work as an actor.
