Happy Veteran's Day, to all my brothers and sisters who have served...

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest admiration and pride for those people who have chosen to answer a higher calling, serving their country. I am not only speaking of the service vets, but also the cops, firefighters, nurses, teachers, etc. - you are all on the "front lines", helping to keep this country safe and our children happy and healthy.

I am proud to have served my country in the US Air Force (347TFW/68AGS, Moody AFB GA; 1983 - 1987), and I was fortunate enough to have served during a time of (relative) peace. We bombed Libya, we went on alert when the Challenger exploded, but overall we just "practiced". Those brave men and women who have served after me have not been as fortunate; and whether you believe in the cause for these two wars or not, please don't take it out on the servicemen and vets - they're simply doing their duty, and doing it to the utmost best of their abilities.

So, I salute you, my fellow servicemen, servicewomen, and vets. And I love you all.

Sgt. Rocky Oliver, USAF (vet)

Comments

1 - My respectful salutes too. Their sacrifices gave us freedom and safety

2 - Same here. USAF 1967-1971. Was not peace-time. Had a one year tour in Thailand. Only war fatalities I knew of on base was when an F4 Phantom with battle damage crashed into the nurse's barracks and on-base TV station. Killed most of the night shift nurses and the whole TV station crew.

I stand with you. Stay safe.
