I am participating in a webcast with a fellow Teamstudio "geek", John Kingsley. The webcast is entitled "Web-enabling Lotus Notes Applications", and is designed to give suggestions and guidance to those Notes developers who have done a great deal of Notes client application development, but are now wanting (or are needing) to begin doing Web-based, or Domino application development. This session covers the basics, so you web-based code gurus probably don't need to apply; however if you're a Notes developer and the thought of doing "Web 2.0" development (or any Web development for that matter) in Domino scares you, then this is the session for you. Here's the abstract:
So, you’re ready to move some of your Lotus Notes applications to the Web. Or maybe you already have. What can you do to make this as efficient as possible while minimizing risk?

Web-enabling applications can mean making an application available to an occasional Web browser, requiring co-existence with Notes, or it can mean a full-blown Web experience. Depending upon your goals, the requirements will be different, and you will have to address them differently.

Web-enabling a Lotus Notes application presents challenges to developers of all abilities. Developing a plan for executing such a project and planning around roadblocks is critical. Potential loss of functionality, major differences in look & feel, and bugs are just some of the challenges that you will confront.

Not only is there a process by which to be more effective, but there are tips, frameworks, and tools that are incredibly valuable in increasing developer efficiencies and minimizing deployment risks.

To learn more, join us for this 1 hour Webcast. We will be covering the following topics:
  • What challenges am I likely to encounter?
  • How can I identify code that will cause problems on the Web?
  • How do I make Notes Client and Web-enabled applications co-exist in the same environment?
  • What tools are available to make this an efficient process?
  • How can I mitigate application deployment risks?

If this sounds like it could help you, then I cordially invite you to join us for this webcast. The webcast is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 2:00 PM Eastern/11:00 AM Pacific, and will be presented by John Kingsley (Technical Director, Teamstudio) and myself.

We look forward to discussing this interesting topic with you!
