Awhile back I blogged about the idea of resurrecting the Nifty Fifty project. I got great feedback from it, and then I quietly did nothing with it for awhile because, well, I got busy (which is a good thing when you're an entrepreneur). Anyway I finally listened to Bruce and decided that I shouldn't try to do this alone, this should be an OpenNTF project.

So now it is, here.

I am still wicked busy, so I am going to need a ton of help on this. I think this is too important not to do, so I thought this is the best way to get it done. Please review our earlier posts about the Nifty Fifty idea here, and then go over to the project document and give me some more ideas - or better yet, volunteer to help.

I had originally wanted to have something to distribute at Lotusphere 2004. I don't think we can make that, but we can talk about it there, and have it available for the Advisor Devcon coming up in June 2004.

Thoughts are welcome - let's make this successful!

1 - I have a simple little Notes 6.5 Ticket tracking system I am going to submit.

2 - I want the designs to be usable out of the box, but not so complicated that they aren't understandable. For instance, the discussion db template that ships with ND6 - it is a nice template, but it is complicated as hell - and would intimidate any newbie developer. I wouldn't mind seeing a "clean" discussion template, with a Notes and Web interface, that shows good design techniques, is well commented, and easily understandable. Also, if we start out with something basic but usable and understandable, then they can easily extend and enhance the template as needed for their own use.

Make sense?

3 - I'll do all I can to help promote it!

4 - Alan, that would be GREAT - I may contact you about this offline to take you up on the offer...

5 - Now this sounds like a great idea.. having scoured the web for as many database designs and code snippets that I could lay my hands on over the last few years.. the idea of having ready made templates sounds great.. and 50 of them sounds fantastic.. How extensive would the designs have to be ? or.. What a the rules ? and something XML based would be a great advantage

6 - I could beef up a few of my templates and add them to the fire. How about my CSS Builder for Domino? It's simple and can be broken down easily. Hell, Rock - just tell me what to put together and I will! I'm in!

7 - great idea, I would love to get involved. I will probably put forward a simple project planning application based on the java applet you can see on my blog.

Alan.
