Greyhawk has found a Sametime plugin for Trillian, the best IM client for Win32. I am a huge fan of Trillian - so much that I have paid for it and use Trillian Pro. It supports all of the major IM networks (e.g. AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, and even IRC), has robust plugin support, and overall is a slick product. The only thing missing has been a Sametime plugin. Seems someone has filled the hole.

Check it out
here. Remember it is still in Alpha, but hey, give this person support so this plugin can be the best possible.

Enjoy!

1 - I agree. it's a workaround. but still...

I guess a public sametime community that we could tap into as that second network or SIP-extended corporate network would do the trick (all in one instance of sametime), but I don't see anyone financing such a thingy any time soon... -Or?

2 - I wish they'd port something to Linux... Gaim is okay, but like you I liked trillian so much I paid for it.
I'll check it out, thanks for noticing it.

3 - Nate,

you can login to multiple sametime servers!

Just add " /multi" to your sametime program shortcuts, and it'll launch as many sessions you want. (example: c:\xxx\sametime.exe /multi)

I know, it's a mess because it doesn't remember the different account settings on next launch, but if you run this on a laptop with hibernation (I reboot maybe once or twice a month) that's no big pain. I use this every day, connected to three communities and AOL. Plus trillian, to control my icq/msn accounts...

4 - I use Lotus notes 6.5 at work. Is there a plugin available to be able to know that I'm using GAIM, not sametime?

5 - Perhaps I'm misunderstanding how this works, but I thought that meant multiple independently executing Sametime clients. I have no interest in doing that. I know it works for some people, but this is the 21st century, and it's hardly a stretch to say that a single client should have awareness of multiple servers.

What if your browser instance could only go to one web server at a time?

6 - I wonder if it is possible to use the Sametime plugin for Trillian parallel to the integrated Sametime functionalities in Notes 6.5? How do both IM entities cooperate and coexist? Do you have any experiences?

- Stefan

7 - I don't think that there is such a plugin for Lotus Notes. I have been evaluating various IM solutions from xmpp based servers, Akeni Corporate IM and of course Lotus Sametime and found Sametime to be easy to use.

8 - Hi Rock!

Marvelous! Thanks for telling us. I love blogs.

Donno what the others above are on about but if you are a trillian pro user you would know what a great step this is. It is good enough for me to donate some dosh via Paypal to Jeff Tompson. I spoke about Sametime and the Sametime plugin to Cerulean studios a while back when I still had confidence in the IBM sametime team and put the right people together but it just died. As with so many things that IBM touches. You must have followed the Webex thread and boy does the Sametime client blow. Pathetic. Another industry lead shot in the foot by it's owner. Enough whining already!

For those that do not know or understand , Trillian is a product that allows you to truly consolidate your chat accounts. You can have (multiple!) M$ messenger accounts including your .net accounts (I have 4), Yahoo accounts (I have 2), AIM accounts (1), IRC accounts, ICQ accounts and other all from one interface. All history is saved so you can retrive that damn url and text from a few days ago and you can of course apply a number of great skins. My favourite is Aikon2.

The Yahoo account can also do video and I know the video bit will be added to MSN soon. When Yahoo changed their logon to do an up your's to all third party the folks at Cerulean studios worked overtime to get the product sorted and those of us supporting them by paying received an immediate upgrade. Great customer service!

I really recommend trillian http://www.ceruleanstudios.com and now with Sametime plugin it is a must for all Domino users. Brilliant!

PS. if you have a Symbian smartphone then go and find Agile messenger http://www.agilemobile.com/am.html It is excellent. Before anybody asks stupid questions here is a senario to explain. You are in a diner (US restaurant!), service is slow, you need to touch base with Rune Carlsen from dominozone. He lives in Denmark (I think?)What do you do? What do you do? You open a GPRS connection, start agile, messenger, automatically connect to all defined chat services, MSN, Yahoo, AOL, Jabber,ICQ or just to AOL,Click on dominocarlson and whoo hoo start typing with that funky keypad! Great!
Thanks again for the post Rock!

9 - Since the current bug reports show lots of crashes caused, I'm holding off on being a tester just yet, but I'm REALLY looking forward to this.

I don't know if he's done it, but I can tell you what the single most important feature of the plugin might well be: the ability to sign into more than one Sametime server at a time. I HATE that you can't do that with the existing client.

10 - You can also get a Lotus Sametime plug-in for Trillian directly from the guys at IBM: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/stforum.nsf/0/70b62384d26b4cc585257029007a5b6f?OpenDocument

So far it works fine for me.

Well, Lotus didn't port it, but the Meanwhile project (my own creature) has a working Gaim plugin. It's still in the earlier stages of development but IM, conferencing, buddy presence, and the storage service are all functional. The directory service is still being developed, but hopefully this will be workable in the near future.
