A new way to ego-Google: Google Suggest...

I found this on Ned's site - seems there is a new way to do some ego-Googling. Google has released a new product (or is it a "feature"? I'm never sure what to call these things at Google), called Google Suggest. Google Suggest works like auto-complete in a word processor or IDE - it attempts to "guess" what you're trying to type, and fills it in for you, or gives you choices that match. As you type each letter, the choices change. And, it appears that Google gives you the pages that are found under the keyword suggestions presented.

So, in a new twist to ego-Googling (like Googlisms), you can begin typing your name and see how far you get before it finds you - and then see how many hits it has for your name as well. As shown above, I get to "rocky ol" before I am at the top of the list - and 639,000 hits is pretty kewl too :)

Thanks again, Ned, for pointing this out to everyone. BTW, if you don't read Ned's site, you should begin to do so - he is a famous "Iris Alumni", is largely responsible for Domino and Notes Peek, and is a pretty fascinating all around uber-geek.

1 - I finally got around to trying this and remember your posting here. I had to type the whole "Scott Good" before it got to me but I was rewarded with 17,800,000 hits (not all me, I'm afraid). That's the benefit of a last name that's also a common word, I guess.

2 - Just like Googlisms I come up with nothing.

Luckily I have a darn strong sense of self and don't let the fact that Google thinks I'm a nobody bother me in the least.

5 - My name ranks a little higher (Stan R should get you there), but that's cuz there was this guy named Stan Rogers (like me and my Dad) who made a few records that, well, kind of encapsulated the Canadian collective soul and had the foresight to die young in a tragic airplane fire in Chicago.

Oh, and I wholeheartedly agree with the "read Ned" admonition. The "Text" section of his site should mostly be required reading.

6 - Hey, I got to "Tom Ni" before it found me. I got 637,000 results! LOL I'm only about 2000 off of you, Rocky. I believe that I may be helped by the fact that there's a musician and a writer named Tom Nichols. Or, maybe they're helped by me? LOL

I just loved it that if you search for "Tom Nichols" my (much neglected) site is the first result! IM A SUPERSTAR!!!!

8 - The number of hits. Is that the number of hits this year, this month or what time scale? Does anyone know?
