Sinus infections suck

I have been feeling puny lately, getting sick. These things usually get better on their own, but unfortunately this one has lingered. I happen to have a teflon plate between my left eye socket and my lower sinus, and this plate helps hold up my eye to keep it from falling into my lower left sinus. It also helps add integrity to my cheekbone, replacing part of it.
Unfortunately my lower left sinus is now much more susceptible to infection than the other ones. I have actually avoided getting infections there for quite some time - but this time I have been inundated with sick bugs, as my kids are all fighting colds as well. I caught their cold when I got back from Ireland, and it has been slowly coming on. It finally settled into my "bad" sinus, and now it is bad.
The left side of my face is swollen, and the sinus itself is throbbing. It is oozing nastiness and blood, so I am very sure it is infected. I am going to the doctor to get antibiotics, so hopefully I can get it under control soon.
The downside of this is that I don't think I will be able to make the DNUG conference after all. I am terribly sorry for this inconvenience, but I definitely do not want to travel and fly with a bad sinus - I have done that in the past, and it was not very fun at all.
Christian Holsing will be taking on the NaSS Under the Hood session that he and I were going to copresent; I am still looking for someone to do the Intro to XML and DXL session. I'll let you know what I find out.
So, I hope everyone at DNUG has a great time, and once again I apologize for my inability to attend. I hope that you'll forgive me, and I will see you soon.

So I hope that you will recover fast from any illnesses and be healthy and well feeling again, and stay so.

Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia) will give your immune system a kick and increase the production of white blood cells in the lymphatic tissue thus speeding up recovery.. but is best taken in the early stages of an infection.
Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus)similarly "ups" the immune response but will do so at any point in the infection.
Bromelain (obtained from fresh Pineapple) works by blocking proinflammatory metabolites and thus reducing the amount of (and there is no nice way to say this) mucus you are producing. Normally used for arthritic conditions it works REALLY well for my sinusitis. I usually take 1x125mg tab in the morning and another in the evening for three to four days and life becomes more bearable.
