Back in August 2004 I held a "Haiku Contest" for fun for my good friend Libby Ingrassia. She was feeling low, and I thought I would cheer her up in a medium she loved - haiku poetry.

Well, this year I thought it was time to revive the Haiku Contest - and now make it an annual Lotusphere event at my blog; so I am announcing the First Annual Lotusphere Haiku Contest. Beginning today until THURSDAY night (Lotusphere ends on Thursday), let's see how creative you geeks can be. I want your best Lotusphere Haiku (plural) - I expect to see some about Lotusphere now, before the show, and then I expect to see some during the week next week about the show. I'll post a new topic every day of the show (Monday through Thursday) for new submissions, and then I'll post some of the best as a wrapup next week. Maybe I'll hold back a C.U.L.T. shirt or two to give away as awards (ooh, should we call the LP Haiku Award the "Libby"? I think so!) .

For those of you who slept through the poetry portion of high school English, let me remind you of what a Haiku really is:

"Haiku is one of the most important form of traditional japanese poetry. Haiku is, today, a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables."
--from Haiku for People

Here are some from Libby that I had posted earlier, as examples:

On an upgrade day
Feeling like a treadmill rat
What version is this?

Or how about:

Cerificates are
expiring in users
I hide at the beach

So I want you all to work hard and show us what you've got. Tell your friends, give us some great Haiku, and earn yourself a Libby!!
